Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a psychotherapy that is used to treat overwhelming experiences which remain stuck in our brains and continue to cause us distress. By keeping one foot in the present and one foot in the past you can make sense of your overwhelming experience and reduce your distress through bilateral stimulation.
2nd wave
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT is a 2nd wave therapy. It looks at the way we think about situations because this affects the way we feel and behave. For example, if we interpret a situation negatively then we might experience unpleasant emotions and these feelings might lead us to behave in certain ways.
Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT)
IPT recognises interpersonal crises can leave us feeling distressed. By exploring our physical, emotional, cultural and spiritual strengths and weakness, and social factors such as relationships and social support, we can find ways to cope with our distress.
Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)
DBT is a 3rd wave therapy which is adapted from CBT for those of us who experience intense and overwhelming emotions. It teaches us skills to help manage stress in moments of crises, to regulate our emotions on a daily basis and improve our relationships with others
- 3rd wave -
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT is a 3rd wave therapy which creatively uses mindfulness and focuses on our values to assist us to live a meaningful life. Through ACT we learn to embrace our thoughts and feelings rather than fighting or avoiding them.
Mindfulness - Based Approaches
Mindfulness-Based Approaches are 3rd wave therapies that focus our attention on the present moment, the ‘here and now.’ If we can learn to step back and observe our thoughts we can detach from our busy minds and reduce the impact of difficult thoughts and feelings.
We can deliver workplace training and tailored workshops. Supervision for health workers is also offered. Please call us to discuss in more detail.
